Sammy’s Success

Sammy ready to sing 'On the road again'We had been away up north in our motorhome with our Staffy, who was suffering from nodules on the lungs but seemed

well enough in herself to go away. However the day we dreaded came sooner than we thought and we lost her in July.

After a couple of weeks of distress and feeling lost not having our mate to care for we began to feel the only way to ease our fretting was to look at other dogs and visit friends with dogs so we could pat them. Then Val decided to ring the pound to

see if they had a small dog that needed a home, we were thinking Staffy or smaller. The pound gave us Maries number

to call and talk about what she had available, after being put through the third degree to be sure she was satisfied that we were

appropiate parents, Marie suggested a Blue Heeler she had that was quiet and loving and needed a good home.

I, Sue, immediately said ” I’m not having a Blue Heeler they’re too big “, however Val being rather persuasive, convinced me

to drive out to Toogoom to see the dog at the foster parents place.

When we arrived there we were greeted by two very nice people who took us around the back to see ” Samantha or Sam ”

for short as they were calling her. I must say here that our idea of a Staffy stands a foot & a half high the first dog we saw was the foster parents Staffy which was twice that size, and we thought ” funny Blue Heeler ” then around the corner came Sam,

who hid behind the man. Sam was smaller than the Staffy, so I thought that’s not too bad a hieght. Val got down and called Sam and she came over to her and stayed for a cuddle, then wandered back to the man and her mate the Staffy. After 5 or 10

minutes I began to melt and called Sam over, she came to me and had a sniff and a pat and she went back to Val.

So after a look at each other and an ” are you sure “, Sam came out to our Holden Combo and jumped in like she’d been there before.

On the way home we decided to call her Samantha Blue or Sammy for short, because we are a duo called ” Country Blue “, and some how we finished up with a dog that was twice the size we wanted but love her immensely. She has now, after 2 months taken over the house, comes into our bedrooms every morning to greet us and kiss us, meets us at the door when we come home and has been camping in our motorhome, runs on the beach chasing a ball and is very protective and obedient. Unfortunately she would rather listen to the radio than us when we practise our music but still she sat in Vals guitar case.

We are now happier and found that a lot of our other dogs traits are in Sammy and we are glad that Marie saved Sammy

so we could have her, even though we vacuum up a dog of hair every day. Sammy has a lounge she is allowed on but she likes the good lounge better so there is still an on going dispute about that, and since we cover the lounge when we go out I guess

Sammy will win the arguement.

Thanks again to Marie and her many helpers and hope others enjoy our story and come and find a new mate.

PS. Sammy used her lounge last night maybe we have won the arguement.
